Cape Town West Coast

Is any place on earth as enchanting, as spectacular, as Cape Town? No wonder the world regularly votes it one of the world's most beautiful cities, set at the tip of a green and historical fascinating province.

At the foot of Africa, between the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the warmer surf of the Indian Ocean, lies a piece of paradise with a natural beauty equal to none. Sandy shores, mountain peaks, forests and dunes permeate this diverse southern wonder-world, which has been enticing visitors since the first seafarers visited it and aptly named it 'the fairest cape in the whole circumference of the earth'. Cape Town holidays are an experience of a lifetime.

Cape Town is without doubt one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Blending the old with the new, it has a relaxed, almost continental atmosphere. The influence of early Dutch settlers in 1652, Malay slaves and British rulers have created a rich tapestry of culture not found anywhere else.

Cape Town has it all – a fascinating mix of up-to-the-minute vibrancy, memorable history and culture, and spectacular natural beauty – all rubbing shoulders under the iconic magic of Table Mountain. The architecture alone is notable : Cape Malay, centuries-old Dutch and British, sleek modern skyscrapers and 21st century apartments

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is another must for every visitor to Cape Town. There are shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, markets, crafts, the Two Oceans Aquarium, hotels, the Maritime Museum, buskers and boat cruises.

An easy boat ride from the V&A Waterfront is the famous Robben Island, with the one-time prison cell of the universally beloved former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela

Past the city centre, beyond Lion's Head, the Atlantic Seaboard suburbs hug the narrow stretch of coast between the Atlantic Ocean and the towering Twelve Apostles Mountain range. Camps Bay's palm-lined beachfront has a permanent holiday atmosphere with its many coffee shops, cafes and restaurants.

A breathtaking setting on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, with about 9000 indigenous plant species is Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, an ideal place to spend a relaxing few hours

One of the highlights of Cape Town holidays is the two ocean drive to Cape Point. The dramatic scenery and stunning beaches en route are not to be missed; the long sandy beach of Muizenberg, Simon's Town – South Africa's principal naval base, and Boulders Beach, home to a colony of African penguins, Cape Point, offering magnificent vistas and Hout Bay, with its magnificent backdrop of Chapman's Peak, sandy beach and fishing harbour.
