Shamwari, which means friend in Shona, is one of the largest privately owned game reserves in the Eastern Cape. This 25 000 hectare reserve, is in a malaria-free region and boasts 5 eco-systems, supporting many forms of plant, animal and bird life and has the famed “Big Five”. The Eastern Cape Game Reserves offers a natural gateway to the famous Garden Route. The Eastern Cape is the best location for families and first time safari visitors. The Eastern Cape is home to various nature reserves, marine reserves and game reserves, where a wide variety of fauna and flora can be found. It is a malaria free area, making it the perfect safari destination. The area supports prolific birdlife; and game includes, among others, the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo).
