Established in 1995, Cape Tours is a specialist tour operator with 25 years personal experience and knowledge of South Africa. We specialise in creating personal memories that will last you a lifetime. We have developed an intimate knowledge of South Africa from living and working there and we use this knowledge to help our clients design their own individual African experience.

Our business has grown primarily from word of mouth, with many repeat customers who have fallen in love with South Africa and what a Cape Tours holiday brings them.

The air holidays shown are ATOL Protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is ATOL 6138. ATOL Protection extends primarily to customers who book and pay in the United Kingdom.

What’s different about Cape Tours? Well, a few things…

Quality and Value

All our properties are handpicked and inspected at least once a year to ensure they continue to meet our exacting standards. Our trusted and personally researched network of contacts, facilities and accommodation provide a selective list on which your personalised itinerary is based. The result is a uniquely tailored holiday but at significantly lower prices than offered by other major South African tour operators.

Personalised Itineraries

Unlike standard tour operators, Cape Tours offers the opportunity to select every individual detail of your trip. When you plan your itinerary with us, we spend considerable time establishing exactly what you want from your African holiday. This enables us to better advise you on places to visit and to suggest the most suitable tour content and venues. You can select your accommodation from five star hotels to rural cottages. Cape Tours has a vast portfolio of properties from which to choose.

Special Activities

We can pre-arrange sporting and recreational activities; for example, surfing, horse riding, sand boarding, white water rafting, rock climbing, diving, whale shark tagging, or whale watching.

Local Representation

Our attention to detail means every aspect of your trip is considered, and to ensure continuity of our service, we have a fully qualified and accredited tour operator in Cape Town, supported by our resident representative to attend to your every need during your trip.

Meet the Team

Mike Tompkins

Born and raised in Cape Town, Mike has been tailoring luxury holidays to South Africa for more than 25 years so there’s not much about South Africa he doesn’t know and love.

Favourite destination: As a born and bred Capetonian, one would expect Cape Town to be my one and only love! That is certainly not far from the truth, however having spent some considerable time in the Mpumalanga Province, an area of great historical, scenic and wildlife diversity, even I have to admit that few regions in the world can match the extraordinary beauty of the Lowveld and escarpment. I certainly count myself fortunate having lived in both the most beautiful city in the world and arguably one of the most beautiful regions in the world.

Favourite activity / pastime: Rugby (having represented the Blue Bulls at junior level) and cricket has and will always be my passion and a highlight was without doubt watching the Springboks take on and beat the Wallabies in the opening match of the 1995 Rugby World Cup at Newlands, their first appearance since the fall of Apartheid.

Best thing about South Africa: Now that father time is catching up on me, it’s taking time out to contemplate life whilst sitting with a glass of my favourite wine overlooking the awesome Swartberg Pass (in Klein Karoo), as well as showing my beautiful granddaughter, Cerys, all my favourite childhood places. It certainly makes you realise how insignificant mankind is in comparison to the forces of nature.

Brian Tompkins

Brian is extremely passionate about his country of birth and wants to share this love with as many people as possible.

Favourite destination: I love Cape Town and everything this wonderfully cosmopolitan city has to offer. From beautiful white sandy beaches just 10 min from the city centre to a wealth of amazing restaurants. Not even to mention the spectacular Table Mountain which is definitely not to be missed. What can be better than sitting on top of Table Mountain looking down over the city with a glass of wine, watching one of the most amazing African sunsets you will ever see? The views and the sense of peace is truly something that stays with you long after you are back home.

Favourite activity / pastime: I am an enthusiastic Protea Cricket Supporter and love watching them play at Sahara Park Newlands with the backdrop of Table Mountain.

Best thing about South Africa: The sunny weather almost all year around!

Abbigail is our Jack Russell who enjoys lazing in the sun.

Favourite destination: Abbigail prefers the West Coast because it’s quiet and peaceful which allows her to forget about the hustle and bustle of the city. She can sit in the sun, relax and await her favourite fresh fish for dinner. What better way to contemplate the mysteries of life?!

Favourite activity / pastime: Sleeping, eating & going for walks – nothing strenuous, that’s the West Coast way of life!

Best thing about South Africa: Warm weather and fresh fish all year round!
