In stark contrast, the Etosha National Park in Namibia, a vast oasis in the semi-desert, offers some of the most extraordinary game-viewing experiences. Consisting of saline desert, Savannah and woodlands and is one of the largest Game Reserves in Africa. Its definitive feature is the Etosha Pan, a vast, shallow depression of approximately 5000 square km. • The wide range of national parks ensures an unforgettable wildlife experience throughout the year, the dry winter months of May through to September / October are generally better for game viewing
• In the wetter months of November through to April, calving season commences and birding as well as botanical experiences are spectacular
• Travelling in Namibia, if self-driving, is best enjoyed in a 4×2 (high vehicle clearance) or 4×4
• Try to limit daily travel to a maximum of 350km. This is sometimes unavoidable, but with the help of Cape Tours and its local partner, we manage this for our clients.
• Due to distances between towns, never allow your fuel tank to fall below half.
• Always ensure that you have plenty of water when out and about
• As the Namibia Dollar – N$ is linked to the South African Rand – ZAR (on a 1 for 1 basis), we recommend that you take ZAR. NB Please note that whilst the ZAR is legal tender in Namibia, the N$ is not legal tender and South Africa and you are only allowed to export N$500.00.
• Make sure you exchange excess N$ cash before you depart Namibia

• Health – Visitors need no special precautions for their stay, except anti-malarial treatments for those visiting the northern game reserves and tropical areas. It is however highly recommended that you discuss your travel plans with your local GP
• Namibia is generally a safe destination. Tourist venues and the country regions may be regarded as completely safe, while the normal precautions apply elsewhere
