The Western Garden Route encompasses fresh water lakes, lagoons, forests, the towering peaks of the Outinequa Mountains and miles of beautiful beaches. The area is a Garden of Eden; home to the Knysna elephant, the Knysna seahorse, Knysna dwarf chameleon, the brilliantly coloured Knysna Loerie, wild coastal oysters, dolphins, whales and much more.

Wilderness is renowned for its tranquil sea and beaches that stretch on forever. There are 2,500ha of National Park with five rivers, five lakes, two estuaries and 18km of coastline. Knysna nestles on the banks of the beautiful Knysna Estuary, surrounded by a natural paradise of indigenous forest, the Outeniqua Mountains and a rugged coastline.

On the Beach Wilderness is the real gem of the Garden Route. Plettenberg Bay, the St. Tropez of South Africa is dubbed the “Jewel of the Garden Route”. The Eastern Cape is South Africa’s second largest province and although unjustifiably underrated as a game destination, it is malaria free and offers a wide variety of wildlife in both national (Addo National Park) and private game reserves.  The Eastern Cape is home to various nature reserves, marine reserves and game parks, where a wide variety of fauna and flora can be found. It is a malaria free area, making it the perfect safari destination, especially for first time safari visitors and families. The area supports prolific birdlife; and game includes, among many others, the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo), and is a natural extension to the famous Garden Route.

Kichaka Game Lodge is situated in a 20 000-acre private game reserve and set between two streams in a lush bushveld valley in the Eastern Cape. The lodge’s large terraces offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness and the adjacent waterhole, popular with local wildlife.

The ten luxuriously appointed suites have been constructed in stone and thatch and blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Each suite, named after the indigenous bush that surrounds it, is situated in a secluded setting and boasts its own private plunge pool.

Guests can enjoy laid-back game viewing while curling up with a book in the library overlooking the waterhole. The expertise of the field guides ensures excellent game viewing and for the more adventurous guest, the standard game drive can be transformed into a guided walk in the bushveld.
