The Cederberg Mountains, burnt orange by iron oxide, dominate the landscape. Jagged sandstone rock formations, like the Maltese Cross and the Wolfberg Arch, and ancient San and Khoi rock art, make this area truly spectacular.
Each August or September, after the winter rains have fallen, the Cederberg area becomes a natural patchwork wonderland as spring flowers emerge to carpet the landscape in a striking array of vivid colours.
However, the springtime blooms are not all the Cederberg region has to offer. The region is one of the richest open-air rock art galleries in the world, with over 5000 sites in the Western Cape alone.
